PROF. ELEAZAR UCHE IKONNE, OD,MHA,PHD,FNCO,FWASH,KSC. (Professor of Optometry)

Prof. Ikonne studied Optometry (OD) at Manilla Central University, Philippines and a specialist Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration (MHA). He has served as Consulting Optometrists at the Park Lane General Hospital, Enugu. Obtained a specialist training in Primary Care Optometry and elected a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in 2003. He equally had a Ph.D in Environmental Health Science from Abia State University. Invariably he has been a Professor of Optometry since 2006.

* Director, Institute For Distance Education (IDEA), ABSU
* Acting Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences- ABSU
* Deputy Provost, College of Medicine & Health Sciences- ABSU
* Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Abia State University-2010-2014
* Rector Abia State Polytechnic, Aba-(on Rescue Mission) 2014-2015
* 18th Inaugural Lecture Laureate of Abia State University
* 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University since December 1, 2015 till date.

 He also served as Chairman /Team Leader , National Universities (NUC) Accreditation Team 2008. Hence Prof Ikonne has made incalculable contributions to his professional body as:

•  Member, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria from 1993 to date
•  Vice Chairman, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria from 2009 to date
•  Registrar, Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometrists
•  Won the prestigious African Optometric Educator Award of the year 2003 and the Distinguished merit Award of the Nigerian Optometric Association ,2006

He has also served as External Examiner to:

(ii)    Madonna University
(iii)   University of Benin
(iv)   University of cape Coast, Ghana

Professor Ikonne is an author of several books and journals.
